A European-style recipe statement carried in the USDA Branded Foods GDSN feed for this GTIN (record modified 2017-11-10, released 2020-02-27). Open Food Facts holds the same statement word for word, so the two are one line of evidence, not corroboration. A concurrent national label, not an earlier generation of the Australian one.

About this product

Terry's Chocolate Orange is a ball of milk chocolate flavoured with orange oil, moulded into twenty segments that separate when the foil-wrapped ball is tapped hard against a surface, the ritual the brand sells as tap and unwrap.[3] This 175 g article comes in a windowed carton marked Milk, and its back panel prints the barcode, the twenty segments per pack and an ingredient list headed milk chocolate flavoured with real orange.[1] It is the size that preceded the 2016 downsizing: the United Kingdom pack dropped to 157 g on 29 May 2016 and to 145 g in 2025.[3][4]

More about this product

The Chocolate Orange was created in 1932 at Terry's Chocolate Works in York, a factory Kraft closed in 2005 before moving production to Poland.[3] Terry's passed to Mondelez International in the 2012 Kraft split, was sold to Eurazeo in 2016 and has been made in Strasbourg by Carambar & Co since 2018.[5][3] This barcode carries two different label statements: an Australian one read from the pack and a European-style one held in United States trade data.[2]

Listing observed

The back panel carries a Nutrition Information panel in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code format (servings per package, average quantity per serving, percentage daily intake against an 8700 kJ adult diet) and the photograph was taken on a retail shelf next to a Special ticket; Open Food Facts also tags the record en:australia. The same panel format is legal in New Zealand, so the panel alone does not separate the two markets, hence derived rather than printed.

Listing observed

USDA Branded Foods holds a GDSN trade record for this exact GTIN with market US, label ingredient statement and a per-100 g panel; a distribution data record, not a retailer listing.

A listing is evidence that this barcode is sold there, on that date; a price is what that listing showed, not a recommended price.

Coverage & research gaps (11)

Coverage measures the evidence recorded here. It does not rate the product.

  • Identity: 3 / 3 · Name, brand and classification recorded
  • Context: 2 / 3 · Evidence groups assigned to a researched label, edition or analysis
  • Label photographs: 0 / 2 · Researched contexts with an assigned photograph
  • Australian label, 175 g carton: nutrient evidence: 14 / 14 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • Trade data label record, market US: nutrient evidence: 6 / 6 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • relationships · unknown: No source names the holder of GS1 company prefix 5000136. It sits in the United Kingdom GS1 range, no company stub here states it, and neither Open Food Facts nor USDA carries a brand_owner for this barcode, so no gs1_prefix_owner relation was recorded rather than guessing one.
  • identity · unknown: Country of origin is not printed on any photographed surface and no data sheet was found for this article. Wikipedia says Chocolate Orange production moved from York to Poland in 2005 and was consolidated in Strasbourg in 2018, but neither statement is tied to this pack, so country_of_origin was left empty.
  • markets · not_researched: No retailer listing printing this GTIN was found for the United Kingdom. Open Food Facts tags the record en:united-kingdom and the old Barcodepedia page for this barcode was a British one, but a contributor tag and an archived 2008 page are not market evidence, so GB was left out of country_of_sale.
  • nutrition · disputed: The per-100 g saturated fat figure on the Australian panel is misprinted as 60.4 g. Recorded as printed and marked disputed rather than silently corrected.
  • nutrition · disputed: Open Food Facts' typed nutriments mix the two labels: fat, saturates, sugars and fibre match the USDA GDSN record while energy 2190 kJ and carbohydrate 60.4 g match the Australian panel. Only the values the USDA record itself carries were entered for this observation.
  • relationships · not_researched: Nothing found names the factory that made this pack or the company that imported it into Australia; the photographed surfaces carry no food business operator block.
  • evidence · stale: Evidence was observed over a year ago; check for newer labels. Historical evidence remains valid.
