About this product

Frooti Mango Drink is the 200 mL Tetra Pak carton, straw taped to the side, of Frooti: the mango drink Parle Agro launched in 1985 as the first beverage sold in Tetra Pak in India and still the company's flagship brand.[4] Wikipedia records it as India's largest-selling mango drink and lists the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom among some twenty export markets.[5] This barcode is the export carton, and Indian grocers in all three of those countries list it.[1][2][3] The pack photographed in 2021 declares 18 % mango juice above a US Nutrition Facts panel of 130 Calories, 32 g sugars and 55 mg sodium per 200 mL serving.[6] USDA files the same barcode under a brand owner it names only as "PARLE INTERNATIONAL".[7]

Parle Agro Private Limited has been registered in Mumbai since 25 December 1985 and is one of three companies the Chauhan family's Parle business, founded in 1929, was divided into, alongside Parle Products and Parle Bisleri.[8][9] Three ingredient statements are on record for this barcode and they disagree: 16.2 % mango pulp with FD&C Yellow No. 6 in the 2018 USDA transcription, 18 % mango juice on the 2021 pack, and 16.8 % mango pulp with gellan gum, potassium sorbate and beta-carotene in the statement a US importer reproduces.[7][10] The barcode was already on the 2006-2013 Barcodepedia as "parle frooti", with the same 200 mL content given as 6.76 fl oz.[11]

Coverage & research gaps (12)

Coverage measures the evidence recorded here. It does not rate the product.

  • Identity: 3 / 3 · Name, brand and classification recorded
  • Context: 3 / 3 · Evidence groups assigned to a researched label, edition or analysis
  • Label photographs: 1 / 3 · Researched contexts with an assigned photograph
  • US export carton photographed 2021: nutrient evidence: 16 / 16 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • USDA Branded Foods label record: nutrient evidence: 14 / 14 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • identity · unknown: No country-of-origin statement is in frame on either photograph and none of the six listings consulted prints one, so country_of_origin is left empty. The straw wrapper visible on the front names Indian makers and a Maharashtra buy-back price, which is packaging text, not an origin declaration.
  • ingredients · disputed: Three mango figures stand under this one barcode: 16.2 % mango pulp in the 2018 USDA statement, 18 % mango juice printed on the pack photographed in 2021, and 16.8 % mango pulp in the statement iShopIndian reproduces. They read as successive label revisions, but no dated source orders them.
  • nutrition · disputed: The USDA record gives 120 µg vitamin A, 6 mg vitamin C and 10 mg calcium per 100 ml; the 2021 panel prints 80 µg vitamin A, no vitamin C row and 15 mg calcium per 200 mL serving. Kept as two observations; only the photograph carries a date.
  • relationships · unknown: The pack's manufacturer block is outside the frame of both photographs, so manufactured_by rests on Wikipedia rather than the label.
  • relationships · unknown: No public source names the licensee of GS1 prefix 8902579, so the prefix owner is derived from the brands in the Open Food Facts block and recorded on the company stub as inferred rather than sourced.
  • markets · unknown: USDA names the brand owner "PARLE INTERNATIONAL". No source found identifies a company of that name, and the pack and the maker's own site name Parle Agro, so no stub was created for it; whether a US importer of that name exists is open.
  • markets · unknown: Amazon US: a search found only ASIN B009BR5JVI, a 27-unit case listed as "Parle Frooti Mango Drink 200ml - Pack of 27". The page prints no barcode, so it is not cited as a listing of this consumer unit. No amazon.ca or amazon.co.uk listing carrying this barcode was found.
