About this product
Yeni Rakı 70 cl is the 700 ml bottle of Yeni Rakı, a Turkish aniseed spirit at 45% alcohol by volume, made by adding aniseed to suma distilled from fresh and dried grapes.[3] The brand dates from 1937 and its trademarks are registered to Mey İçki, the Turkish spirits company Diageo agreed to buy in 2011.[4][5] It is distilled at the Alaşehir and Nevşehir plants of Mey Alkollü İçkiler Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.[4][6] In Germany a retailer data sheet names Borco-Marken-Import in Hamburg as the operator placing it on the market and gives Turkey as the country of origin,[1] and US liquor stores list the same barcode.[2] As a drink over 1.2% alcohol it needs no ingredient list or nutrition declaration under EU rules.[7]

Yeni Rakı ("new rakı") was introduced under the state monopoly Tekel; after Tekel's alcoholic drinks division was privatised, it passed to Mey, founded in 2004.[8][9] Borco took over German distribution from Diageo Germany in 2014,[10] and German price comparison has listed this barcode since 2016.[11] The 2006-2013 Barcodepedia page for it was titled "Yeni Raki 70cl 45%".[12]
