About this product

Bisto Gravy Granules are the instant gravy Premier Foods sells under the Bisto name: a red plastic tub of savoury granules that thicken into gravy when boiling water is stirred in.[2] Bisto began in 1908 as a meat-flavoured gravy powder invented by Messrs McRoberts and Patterson; granules followed in 1979 and by 2005 held more than 70 per cent of the British gravy market.[3] The brand belongs to Premier Foods, the St Albans ambient-food group that also owns Mr Kipling, Oxo and Sharwood's.[4] This tub carries the older "aah! Bisto — the nation's favourite" livery, and its list puts potato starch, maltodextrin and palm oil ahead of salt.[2] Open Food Facts files the record under France; that is a contributor's tag, while the label itself is British.[5]

More about this product

The barcode has been looked for since the first Barcodepedia, whose 2007 entry recorded it as "Bisto Favourite Gravy Granules" in a tub and nothing more.[6] Premier Foods now sells the plain granules as Bisto Traditional Gravy Granules in 190 g, 300 g and 450 g packs under a different barcode block.[1]

Listing observed

English label printing www.bisto.co.uk and a reference-intake footnote in the UK and EU format; Premier Foods sells this granules line in Britain. No listing was found that prints this GTIN, and the Open Food Facts country tag (France) is a contributor claim, not evidence.

A listing is evidence that this barcode is sold there, on that date; a price is what that listing showed, not a recommended price.

Coverage & research gaps (9)

Coverage measures the evidence recorded here. It does not rate the product.

  • Identity: 3 / 3 · Name, brand and classification recorded
  • Context: 1 / 2 · Evidence groups assigned to a researched label, edition or analysis
  • Label photographs: 0 / 1 · Researched contexts with an assigned photograph
  • English label on the red tub: nutrient evidence: 18 / 18 · Recorded nutrient rows linked to a source; not the number of nutrients that ought to exist
  • identity · unknown: Net content is not on any photographed surface. The panel says the pack makes approximately 90 portions, but the maker states 57 portions for 190 g and retailer panels state 106 for 300 g and 166 for 450 g, so the weight cannot be derived safely.
  • markets · unknown: No retailer or wholesaler listing was found that prints this GTIN, so the market rests on the label itself; the Open Food Facts country tag (France) is a single contributor claim.
  • relationships · not_researched: The manufacturer, packer and food business operator block on the back of the tub has not been photographed, so only brand ownership is recorded.
  • evidence · unknown: No register names the holder of GS1 prefix 5010024; the owner is attributed to Premier Foods from brand ownership alone.
  • identity · unknown: Whether this article is still on sale. The current Bisto range sells the plain granules as Traditional Gravy Granules in 190 g, 300 g and 450 g packs under 5000354 barcodes.
  • evidence · stale: Evidence was observed over a year ago; check for newer labels. Historical evidence remains valid.
  • schema · schema_gap: Review and assign legacy facts to coherent observations.
  • ingredients · not_researched: Ingredient statement or sourced exemption not recorded.
  • nutrition · not_researched: Nutrition declaration or exemption not recorded.
