Bisto is the best known name in instant gravy in the United Kingdom and Ireland.[1] The first Bisto product, a meat-flavoured gravy powder, was invented by Messrs McRoberts and Patterson in 1908; gravy granules followed in 1979, and by 2005 Bisto Gravy Granules held more than 70 per cent of the British market.[1] The Bisto Kids, drawn by Will Owen and first published in 1919, gave the brand its "Ah, Bisto!" catchphrase.[1] Premier Foods lists Bisto among its own brands.[2]
