Jacobs Suchard was the Swiss chocolate and coffee group formed in 1982, when the Bremen coffee house Jacobs, run by Klaus Johann Jacobs, merged with Interfood, the Swiss holding behind Suchard and Tobler; it had its seat in Zurich.^[1][2] Its brands included Suchard, Milka, Toblerone and, from 1987, the Belgian chocolate Côte d'Or: it bid for Côte d'Or against Nestlé that year, took 66 % of the shares and the remainder in February 1989, which is why it is listed as the former owner on the Côte d'Or brand page here.^[3] It also bought the American confectioner Brach's in 1987.^[1]

Philip Morris's Kraft General Foods took over Jacobs Suchard in 1990, apart from Brach's and Interfood.^[1][4] With Brach's and the non-consumer businesses Klaus Jacobs kept, he built the company now known as Barry Callebaut.^[5] In 1993 Kraft General Foods Europe and Jacobs Suchard were combined as Kraft Jacobs Suchard.^[2] Kraft General Foods took the name Kraft Foods in 1995, and in 2012 the old Kraft Foods Inc. renamed itself Mondelez International and spun off its North American grocery business as Kraft Foods Group; Mondelez International is the legal successor of Kraft Foods Inc.^[4] Philip Morris Companies, later Altria Group, parted with Kraft at the end of March 2007.^[2] The group is a different company from Kraft Foods Schweiz Holding GmbH in Zug, the Mondelez holding company that was created on 27 June 1991, after the takeover, and has carried the names Colima Holding AG, Jacobs Suchard SA and Kraft Jacobs Suchard SA.^[6]
