About Hershey
Hershey, registered as The Hershey Company, is the American confectionery group founded by Milton S. Hershey in 1894 as the Hershey Chocolate Company and still seated at Hershey, Pennsylvania.[1] Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under HSY, but Hershey Trust Company, as trustee for the trust Milton and Catherine Hershey set up for Milton Hershey School, maintains voting control as its controlling stockholder and has three representatives on its board.[2] At the end of 2023 that trust held 99.9% of the Class B stock, which carries ten votes a share, and 27.7% of the common stock counted as converted.[3]
The company files with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as HERSHEY CO under CIK 0000047111, with employer identification number 23-0691590, incorporation in Delaware and a business address at 19 East Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033; the SEC record also carries its former name Hershey Foods Corporation, used until April 2005.[4] In February 2023 Hershey bought 1,000,000 of its own shares from the School Trust for $239.9 million.[2]
