About Hershey Trust Company
Hershey Trust Company is a trust company in Hershey, Pennsylvania, chartered by the Pennsylvania Department of State on 28 April 1905 and incorporated by Milton S. Hershey, Harry Lebkicher and John E. Snyder; its sole business is managing charitable trusts endowed by Milton Hershey, the largest being the Milton Hershey School Trust.[1] As trustee for that trust it is the controlling stockholder of The Hershey Company, holding voting control and three seats on its board.[2] It files with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission under CIK 0000908551, with employer identification number 23-0692150 and a business address at 1 East Chocolate Avenue, Suite 400, Hershey, PA 17033.[3]
No company stands above it: Milton Hershey, who died in 1945, bequeathed the stock of Hershey Trust Company to the Milton Hershey School Trust, the charitable trust for Milton Hershey School that the company itself administers.[1] It ran a commercial bank, Hershey National Bank, from 1925 until the Hershey Bank was sold to PNC Financial in 1986, and sold its wealth management business to Bryn Mawr Trust in 2011.[1]
