About this product
Maria Callas: Life and Art is a documentary about the soprano Maria Callas, produced and directed by Alan Lewens and Alastair Mitchell, first made in 1987 and broadcast in the UK on 27 December 1987.[2] This barcode is the 1999 EMI Classics DVD-Video edition, catalogue number DVA 4 92247 9: a single-sided DVD-5 in NTSC with English, German and French subtitles, made in the EU and packed in a DVD-size super jewel box with a four-page insert.[2] Its 20 menu chapters run year by year from 1923 to 1974, with performances from Norma, Tosca, Carmen and a 1974 concert in Sapporo.[2] A PAL edition came out in Europe the same year as DVA 4 92248 9.[3] Amazon.com lists an NTSC edition released on 26 October 1999 under Angel Records.[1]
The film first appeared on LaserDisc in Japan in 1987, on the TOEMI LaserVision label, and EMI Classics reissued it on DVD in 2004 as Life & Art.[4] EMI Classics was the classical label Thorn EMI founded in 1990; Warner Music Group absorbed it into Warner Classics in 2013.[5]
