About this product

Twinings Original Earl Grey is a loose-leaf black tea scented with bergamot, sold in a cream 200 g metal caddy labelled in French and Dutch for France and Belgium.[1] The front carries the Twinings of London wordmark, the strapline "a unique blend of black tea, delicately scented with the flavour of bergamot", a "recette inchangée" flash and the royal warrant naming R. Twining and Company Limited as tea and coffee merchants.[2] The side panel describes rolled leaves of Pekoe grade, an amber colour and a medium intensity.[3] The declaration lists only two ingredients, black tea and bergamot flavouring at one per cent, above the 200 g net quantity and the barcode.[1]

More about this product

This review replaced an empty Markets table with printed evidence off the pack itself. The back prints the French Triman sorting block, "pensez au tri", with a reference to consignesdetri.fr marked "only valid for France", and it names Foods International S.A.S. as the consumer-service contact at Cergy-Pontoise under a French badge and at Antwerp under a Benelux badge.[1] That company is recorded here as the food business operator; the French business register holds a company of the same name, but it was created in 2022 and closed in 2025 and so cannot be the operator on a tin photographed in 2016, which is left as an open question rather than asserted.[1]

Identity was tested rather than assumed, because a second 200 g Twinings Earl Grey circulates in the same markets as a French-only coffret under barcode 5055953902494. Three of the nine photographs show the barcode 5 055953 900599 in the same frame as the declaration, which settles it.[1][4] No listing that names this GTIN could be found, so the French retailer row is derived rather than sourced.[5]

The tin prints no nutrition table, and that is by design: tea whose only added ingredient is a flavouring that does not modify its nutritional value is exempt from the mandatory nutrition declaration under Annex V, point 8.[6] The exemption is now recorded as a panel with its legal basis instead of only in prose. A Go-UPC citation was dropped, since that record copies Open Food Facts down to the ingredient string and is not a second source.[7] The brand goes back to Thomas Twining's tea room at 216 Strand in 1706, and Associated British Foods has owned it since 1964.[8][9][10]

A French online grocer lists "Thé Original Earl Grey, Twinings (200 g), boîte en métal" at EUR 7.83 but prints no barcode; a second 200 g Twinings Earl Grey article, the coffret 5055953902494, also circulates in France

A listing is evidence that this barcode is sold there, on that date; a price is what that listing showed, not a recommended price.

Coverage & research gaps (6)

Coverage measures the evidence recorded here. It does not rate the product.

  • Identity: 3 / 3 · Name, brand and classification recorded
  • Context: 1 / 1 · Evidence groups assigned to a researched label, edition or analysis
  • Label photographs: 1 / 1 · Researched contexts with an assigned photograph
  • relationships · unknown: The French business register has a FOODS INTERNATIONAL (SIREN 917700817) but it is a Montreuil company created in 2022 and closed in 2025, not the Cergy-Pontoise S.A.S. printed on tins photographed in 2016-2019. No register entry for the operator on the pack could be matched, and www.foodsinternational.eu did not respond to two fetches
  • markets · unknown: The BNL badge implies the Netherlands and Luxembourg alongside Belgium, but only the Belgian address is printed, so only Belgium is recorded
  • markets · unknown: No retailer listing naming this GTIN could be found. The French listing used here prints no barcode, and a second 200 g Twinings Earl Grey article, the coffret 5055953902494, is sold in the same markets with a French-only label
  • packaging · unknown: Lot codes on two tins end "PL" and a travel retailer names a Polish Twinings plant, but no photographed surface states a country of packing, so country_of_origin is left empty
  • evidence · stale: Every photograph of this tin was taken between 2016 and 2019; the current pack may differ
  • evidence · stale: Evidence was observed over a year ago; check for newer labels. Historical evidence remains valid.
