About this product
Unico Tomato Paste is a 156 mL can of tomato paste with a single declared ingredient, tomatoes, and the front carries "100% Pure" and a Product of Canada roundel.[2] Unico, a Toronto brand of Mediterranean-style foods founded in 1917, has belonged to Sun-Brite Foods Inc. since 1997.[3] Sun-Brite is based in southwestern Ontario and was Canada's largest tomato processor as of 2016.[4] Unico lists the paste in 156 mL and 369 mL sizes.[5] The current bilingual label gives 20 Calories, 0 mg sodium and 300 mg potassium per 2 tablespoons (30 mL).[2] An Ontario grocer lists the 156 mL can at CAD 1.49.[1]
More about this product
The barcode has been in use at least since 2008, when the earlier Barcodepedia listed "UNICO Tomato Paste" in a 5-1/2 fl oz can.[6] A label photographed in 2020 showed an older Nutrition Facts layout with 20 mg sodium and 280 mg potassium per 30 mL.[7] Unico's own product page still shows that panel.[5]
