About this product
A two-CD reissue on the Westminster label of Hermann Scherchen's 1959 stereo recording of Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232, with Pierrette Alarie, Nan Merriman, Léopold Simoneau and Gustav Neidlinger, the Vienna Academy Chamber Choir and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra.[1] It was recorded in the Mozartsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus in April and June 1959 and digitally remastered at 96 kHz/24 bit by Emil Berliner Studios for Deutsche Grammophon's 2002 "Westminster The Legacy" series; the European discs were pressed in Germany by Universal M & L.[2] Deutsche Grammophon still lists the set under this UPC in its own catalogue.[3]
More about this product
Westminster first issued the recording on LP as WST 304;[4] it was Scherchen's second studio recording of the Mass, after a 1950 version.[5] The Westminster catalogue passed to MCA in 1979 and is now managed by Deutsche Grammophon.[6] The old Barcodepedia listed this barcode in 2007 as "Scherchen Hermann / VSO – Mass in B minor", from upcdatabase.com.[7]

- Specifications: 0 / 12 · Recorded specifications mapped to comparable property keys
- identity · disputed: Release date: Discogs gives 14 May 2002, MusicBrainz only 2002, a Bach Cantatas forum post of 29 March 2002 announces the reissue for April, and the Deutsche Grammophon catalogue page shows 15 October 2009 (probably its digital date). The Release field keeps the year.
- identity · unknown: Discogs lists a US club edition with the same catalogue number (made in USA by UML for BMG Direct) without a barcode; whether it carries this UPC is unconfirmed.
- relationships · unknown: No source names the licensee of GS1 company prefix 0028947; no gs1_prefix_owner edge is recorded.
- markets · stale: Market evidence is the catalogue entry for the 2002 European pressing; no retailer listing printing this barcode could be fetched (Amazon.com ASIN B000063DS8 answered HTTP 500 to the server, Presto Music a challenge page).
