Carbomer

About

Carbomer is the label name of poly(acrylic acid), a polymer of acrylic acid that in water at neutral pH loses protons from its side chains and becomes an anionic polyelectrolyte, able to take up water and swell to many times its volume; that is what makes it a thickener.^[1] It is printed as "Carbomer" on the base of Dove Body Love Rich Nourishment Cream.^[2]
