About Symington's
Symington's is a dry-food manufacturer in east Leeds, at Thornes Farm Business Park on Pontefract Lane, and the company Campbell Soup Company chose in 2011 to bring its brand back to British shelves.[1][2] Campbell's press release described it as one of the oldest food names in Britain, dating back to 1827, making dry products under its own brands, under licence and for private-label customers, and gave it product development, production and distribution of the new Campbell's cup soups, simmer soups and savoury rice and pasta dishes.[1] Its own brands page lists Mug Shot, Naked, Ragu, Chicken Tonight, Twistd and The Hungry Elephant.[3] Since 2021 it has belonged to the Italian food group Newprinces, formerly Newlat Food.[4]
The legal entity is Symington's Limited, incorporated on 6 August 1990 as Brand Partnership Limited and renamed on 18 December 2006; Companies House lists it as active, with the nature-of-business codes 10390 (other processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables) and 74990 (non-trading company).[2] Its persons-with-significant-control register names Newlat Food S.p.A. of Reggio Emilia, now Newprinces S.p.A., from 4 August 2021, with 75% or more of the shares and voting rights and the right to appoint and remove directors; the previous holder, Speedboat Acquisitionco Limited of Leeds, registered from 27 May 2020, ceased on the same day, as did Speedboat Holdco Limited, registered from 6 April 2016.[4] Above Newprinces, GLEIF names the Swiss holding company Newlat Group SA of Paradiso as its direct and ultimate parent.[5]
