About Ricola

Ricola AG is the Swiss maker of herb sweets, pastilles and teas behind the Ricola brand, based at Baselstrasse 31 in Laufen near Basel, with subsidiaries in Italy, Great Britain, Asia and the United States.[1][2] All Ricola products are made in Laufen on a blend of 13 herbs.[1] It is a family company of the Richterich family, and GLEIF records Ricola Familienholding AG as its ultimate consolidating parent.[1][3] Since 2019 Ricola has been one of the three equal shareholders of CFP Brands, the German sales joint venture that took over its distribution in Germany.[4]

The business began in 1930, when the baker Emil Richterich founded the confectionery works Richterich & Compagnie in Laufen; the name Ricola is formed from Richterich, Compagnie and Laufen.[1] Its 13-herb recipe dates from 1940, exports began in 1960, and the Klosterfrau Healthcare Group handled German distribution from 1987 until the move to CFP Brands in 2019.[1] The present company Ricola AG was entered in the register in 1982.[2]
