About Norway Foods
Norwegian food company formed in Stavanger in 1981, when the remaining Norwegian producers of canned brisling merged into one group; King Oscar was its most important trademark.[1] Chr. Bjelland & Co, until then the largest of them, handed all its production to the new group and became a property and holding company, and the last Bjelland factory at Verven in Stavanger ran until the spring of 1983.[2] Norway Foods held the King Oscar brand from the merger until Rieber & Søn bought the company in 1996, the step that carried the brand into the Bergen food group and, later, out of Norwegian canning altogether.[1][3] Store norske leksikon gives the legal name as Norway Foods AS; the Norwegian Wikipedia articles on Chr. Bjelland & Co and Stavanger Preserving call the 1981 group Norway Foods Ltd.[1][2][4]
