About EMI Music Germany
EMI Music Germany GmbH & Co. KG was the German record company of the EMI group, seated in Cologne and the successor of EMI Electrola, which German Wikipedia says was renamed in spring 2002.[1] The Cologne district court registered the partnership under HRA 15434 on 24 May 2002 as EMI Electrola GmbH & Co. KG, with EMI Group Germany GmbH as general partner and EMI Overseas Holdings Ltd. as limited partner, and recorded the name EMI Music Germany GmbH & Co. KG on 15 October 2002; Virgin Schallplatten GmbH & Co. KG was merged into it on 2 October 2002 and MUTE Tonträger GmbH on 30 July 2003, EMI Recorded Music GmbH replaced EMI Group Germany GmbH as general partner on 3 April 2008, and the register records the company's termination on 23 April 2013.[2]
The register entry of 2 October 2002 also records EMI Virgin Music Publishing Germany GmbH & Co. KG as a limited partner.[2] EMI Recorded Music GmbH, the Cologne company registered in 2007 that later moved to Berlin and today trades as Universal Music GmbH, names EMI Music Germany as a holding in the accounts it published in May 2011, May 2012 and August 2013, and Universal Music Entertainment GmbH lists it among its holdings in a filing of February 2014.[2] The company worked from Cologne's Mediapark, which EMI Electrola had moved into in August 2000, and was at first spread over Munich for Virgin, Cologne for Capitol, EMI Classics and Blue Note and Berlin for Labels Germany and Mute; after the Munich site closed in April 2004 it kept Cologne and Berlin.[1] Universal Music Group bought EMI's recorded music in a deal the European Commission cleared in September 2012, after which the German EMI labels Capitol, Blue Note and Virgin were brought together in Berlin in May 2013 and Electrola moved to Munich.[1][3]
