Dextro Energy GmbH & Co. KG makes and markets the Dextro Energy range of dextrose tablets, sports drinks, gels and bars. Its imprint gives the seat as Hafenstr. 77, 47809 Krefeld, with the VAT number DE240314858 and Dextro Energy Geschäftsführungs-GmbH, Amtsgericht Krefeld HRB 10668, as general partner.^[1] The limited partnership itself is entered at Amtsgericht Krefeld under HRA 5271, for the manufacture and distribution of food and beverages of all kinds and the production of food for third parties.^[2] The packs name the company as food business operator at a Krefeld post-office box, while the German trade record behind retailer listings gives Otto Hahn Str. 4, 40670 Meerbusch, as the operator's address.^[3][4]

The product line goes back to 1927, when Deutsche Maizena GmbH sold the dextrose powder that became the brand; Deutsche Maizena belonged to the American Corn Products Refining Corporation, which was renamed Bestfoods in 1998 and absorbed into Unilever in 2000.^[5] The company that carries the business today is younger than that: it was registered on 7 February 2005 with its seat in Hamburg as Zertus Proxima GmbH & Co. KG, with Zertus Proxima Geschäftsführungs-GmbH as general partner and ZERTUS GmbH as limited partner, and Unilever sold Dextro Energy to Zertus on 5 March 2005.^[2][5] In June 2005 the register recorded the move of the seat to Krefeld under HRA 5271 and Dextro Energy Geschäftsführungs-GmbH as the new general partner, and Zertus Proxima GmbH & Co. KG stands in the register as the former name.^[2] Around 160 people worked in the Krefeld business at the time of the sale, on an estimated turnover of up to 30 million euro in a German dextrose market then put at 50 million.^[5] Above ZERTUS GmbH the group is held by Zuckerraffinerie Tangermünde Fr. Meyers Sohn Holding GmbH of Hamburg, which files the consolidated group accounts and lists Dextro Energy among its companies.^[6][7]
