Alken-Maes

About

Alken-Maes is a Belgian brewing group created by the 1988 merger of the Maes brewery at Kontich-Waarloos and Cristal-Alken at Alken, and the second-largest brewer in Belgium.^[1] Besides its pilsners it owns abbey, brown and wheat beers and the Mort Subite lambics, whose Kobbegem brewery it bought into in 1989 and took over fully in 2000.^[1] Scottish & Newcastle bought the group in 2000 and was itself taken over by a Carlsberg-Heineken consortium in 2007; the group has belonged to Heineken since 2008.^[2] GLEIF records the company at Blarenberglaan 3C, Mechelen, under Belgian enterprise number 0716926901.^[3]
