Mort Subite is a Belgian brand of lambic beers - gueuze, kriek, framboise, faro and pêche - brewed at Kobbegem in Asse.[1] The name was taken from A la Mort Subite, a Brussels café and gueuze blendery bought by the De Keersmaeker brewery from the Vossen brothers in 1970; the brewery's Geuze Den Hert was renamed after it, and the brand later gave the brewery its own name.[2] Mort subite, "sudden death" in French, is the short form of the Brussels dice game played in the café.[1] The brand belongs to the Alken-Maes group, part of Heineken since 2008.[3]
