Maredsous is a Belgian abbey beer brand named after the Benedictine abbey of Maredsous at Anhee, whose community owns the trade mark and the recipes.[1] The first beer, an amber 6 % Maredsous 6, was worked out in 1949 by Father Attout with the du Faleau brewery at Chatelineau; brewing passed to Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat at Breendonk in 1964 under licence from the monks.[1][2] The range has carried the recognised Belgian abbey beer label since 1999 and today covers Maredsous 6 (blonde, 6 %), Maredsous 8 (brown, 8 %) and Maredsous 10 (tripel, 10 %), with a white Maredsous Extra poured only at the abbey's own micro-brewery.[1][3]
