Duvel Moortgat is a Flemish family brewery founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat and now in its fourth generation, best known for the strong golden ale Duvel.[1] The public limited company is registered in the Belgian Crossroads Bank for Enterprises as number 0400.764.903, seated at Breendonk-Dorp 58 in Puurs-Sint-Amands, with the legal situation running from March 1931 and the Dutch name DUVEL MOORTGAT recorded since 1999.[2][3] Besides Duvel it brews Vedett, Liefmans, La Chouffe, De Koninck and the Maredsous abbey beers, which it has produced since 1964 under licence from Maredsous Abbey.[1][4] Its wider group includes Boulevard Brewing and Firestone Walker in the United States.[1]
