German confectionery brand whose name is a syllabic abbreviation of Hans Riegel Bonn; the company was entered in the commercial register on 13 December 1920 and started in a home kitchen in the Kessenich district of Bonn.[1][2] Haribo created the first gummy bears in 1922 and the Goldbären remain its flagship product; the brand is also used for Maoam and other fruit gum, liquorice and marshmallow lines.[1][2] The brand is owned by HARIBO GmbH & Co. KG, since 2018 headquartered in Grafschaft, Rhineland-Palatinate.[3][1]
