About this product

Fisherman's Friend Eucalyptus is the German 25 g bag of the sugared original menthol pastille, sold as "extra frische Menthol-Pastillen" and holding about twenty lozenges.[3][4] The recipe is sugar flavoured with liquorice juice powder, menthol, eucalyptus oil and paprika extract, thickened with dextrin and tragacanth.[1] The lozenges come from Lofthouse of Fleetwood, the Lancashire family firm founded by the chemist James Lofthouse in 1865, and the trade sheet for the counter display gives Great Britain as the country of origin.[5][6] CFP Brands of Düsseldorf, the joint venture of Perfetti Van Melle, Ricola and the British distributor Impex Management, markets the brand for the German market alone and is named as the responsible operator on the pack data.[7][6] Shop Apotheke lists the bag under EAN 50357390 with pharmacy number 02192831 at EUR 1.59.[1]

The flavour is what the maker sells internationally as Original Extra Strong: the German page calls the same pack "Eucalyptus mit Zucker" and the English one "the perfect, unique and original blend of eucalyptus and menthol", first formulated in 1865.[4][8] Two German bags photographed months apart print different panels, 1619 kJ / 381 kcal with 0,01 g salt and 1628 kJ / 383 kcal with 0,25 g salt, and both figure sets are still in print in 2026, the first in the pharmacy and wholesale records and the second on the maker's own German page; both are kept here.[9][10][4] The 2006-2013 Barcodepedia held this barcode as "fishermans friend extra stark"; its "Unknown Item, produced in United Kingdom by Unknown producer" line was generated from the barcode, not read from a pack.[11]
