About this product
Dextro Energy Classic is a 46 g cube of eight individually wrapped dextrose tablets, the plain flavour of the glucose cube that Dextro Energy GmbH & Co. KG of Krefeld makes and markets.[3][4] The tablets are 89 % dextrose with maltodextrin, citric acid, magnesium salts of fatty acids and flavouring, each scored so it can be halved, and the pack base is printed "Made in Germany" above the EAN-8.[5][6] German grocers list it at around EUR 1.15 to 1.23 and the maker's own shop still sells the flavour as an 18-cube case, so the article is current.[7][8][9] The label was revised between 2021 and 2024: carbohydrate rose from 90 g to 91 g per 100 g and the fat and salt figures became more precise, while the ingredient list stayed the same.[10][9]
The brand goes back to 1927, when Deutsche Maizena GmbH sold a dextrose powder through pharmacies; the cube reached the shops in 1935 as Dextro Energen and was renamed Dextro Energy in 2002. Unilever sold the business to Zertus GmbH of Hamburg on 5 March 2005.[4] This barcode has been in circulation at least since May 2007, when the original Barcodepedia held it under the slug "dextro-engergy-classic" with no facts attached.[11]
