About this product
The 400 g glass jar of Nutella, the hazelnut spread with cocoa that Ferrero has made since 1964 and sells in France from its plant at Villers-Écalles in Normandy, the first Nutella factory in the world and the source of more than a quarter of global production.[3] The French label declares seven ingredients: sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts at 13 per cent, skimmed milk powder at 8,7 per cent, fat-reduced cocoa at 7,4 per cent, lecithins from soya as emulsifier, and vanillin, and it ends with the words "Sans gluten".[4] Per 100 g the jar gives 2252 kJ and 539 kcal with 30,9 g of fat and 56,3 g of sugars, and it prints a second column for a 15 g portion, about a teaspoon, of which the pot holds roughly twenty-six.[4]

The recipe on this barcode changed once, and the change is documented. Until November 2017 the list read 6,6 per cent skimmed milk powder followed by whey powder; Ferrero then replaced the whey with an equivalent 2,1 g per 100 g of skimmed milk powder, taking it to 8,7 per cent and moving it ahead of the cocoa, after a German consumer association noticed the difference.[5][6] The company said nothing else was altered and the nutrition values were practically unchanged.[5] Both lists are kept here, because photographs of the earlier jars remain the evidence for the Belgian and Dutch markets: one bilingual jar names Ferrero France Commerciale at Mont Saint Aignan, Ferrero S.A./N.V. in Brussels and Ferrero B.V. in Breda as the three national distributors.[4] Open Food Facts still carries the pre-2017 list as its typed text.[7]
