About this product

Pepsi Zero Sugar is PepsiCo's sugar-free cola, and this is its 355 mL can for Canada, printed in English and French with the name of PepsiCo Canada ULC of Mississauga.[1] The same barcode was on the black Pepsi Max can photographed in 2016, and by 2019 it had been renamed Pepsi Zero Sugar.[2][3] The can is sweetened with aspartame (124 mg) and acesulfame potassium (32 mg) and contains Panax ginseng root extract and potassium sorbate. The labels read in 2016 and 2023 declare 69 mg of caffeine per can.[4] That is the original North American recipe. PepsiCo dropped the ginseng and cut the caffeine in the United States in January 2023, but the change did not affect Canada.[5] The 2025 can carries the 2023 Pepsi logo and the line "Proudly bottled in Canada".[6][1]

The drink reached Canada in March 2008 as Diet Pepsi Max and lost the "Diet" in early 2009.[5] Between 1994 and 2002 Canada had an earlier, unrelated Pepsi Max: because of local rules on artificial sweeteners, it was a mid-calorie cola sweetened with aspartame and high-fructose corn syrup.[5] The grocer Metro lists the can under its barcode as "Cola Flavoured Soft Drink Zero Sugar".[7]
