About this product

The British Music Collection: Arthur Bliss is a two-CD Decca compilation, catalogue number 470 186-2, released in the United Kingdom in 2001.[1][2] It gathers works by the English composer and Master of the Queen's Music Sir Arthur Bliss (1891–1975),[3] recorded between 1955 and 1993: the Introduction and Allegro, Cello Concerto with Robert Cohen and Meditations on a Theme by John Blow under Barry Wordsworth, brass fanfares with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, Bernard Herrmann's suite from Things to Come, and the composer conducting his own Welcome the Queen and Theme and Cadenza with Alfredo Campoli.[1] MusicWeb International reviewed it in January 2002 as part of a new series of Decca reissues, noting that the second disc repeats the Introduction and Allegro in Bliss's own 1955 recording.[4]
