About this product
FXpansion Guru is a software drum machine for Windows and Mac OS X, released in 2005 by the London developer FXpansion and installed from a DVD-ROM.[1][2] It combines drum sample playback, loop slicing, effects and multi-part sequencing in eight engines, each with 16 pads and a step sequencer of up to 128 steps.[1][3] Its loop slicer sorts the slices of a loop into kick, snare, hi-hat and percussion pads.[4] Guru ran stand-alone, as a ReWire device and as VST, DXi, Audio Units and RTAS plug-ins.[3] Sound On Sound reviewed it in September 2005 at £149.99 including VAT.[2] FXpansion now lists Guru as a legacy product superseded by Geist.[4] Go-UPC lists this barcode as "Fxpansion Guru - Loop Splicing Software".[5]
The manual carries the notice "© 2005 Fxpansion Audio UK Ltd" and tells buyers that the serial number is printed on the DVD packaging.[6] The bundled library of around 6 GB came from 8 Bit Audio, Gearshift, G-Force, Groove Criminals, Nu Skool Breakz, Q Up Arts, Set Creative, Wizoo and Yellow Tools.[4] In the United States the product was sold by zZounds as "FXpansion Guru Loop Splicing Software", item FXPGURU; the retailer now marks it as no longer available.[7][3]
