An extract of the kola nut, the seed of Cola acuminata and Cola nitida, evergreen trees native to the tropical rainforests of West Africa; Nigeria grows about half the world crop.^[1] The seeds hold roughly 2 to 4 per cent caffeine along with theobromine, tannins and polyphenols, and their bitter, faintly rose-scented flavour is what the name of cola drinks refers to.^[1] On the ColaCao label it appears as the natural aroma inside the kola-malted cereal cream, declared as "aroma natural (extracto de nuez de cola)".^[2]
