Amylmetacresol is a mild antiseptic used in medicated throat lozenges, where it is paired with 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol to kill bacteria associated with mouth and throat infections; Strepsils has contained the pair since 1958.[1] Reckitt's Strepsils Malaysia site states the core-range strength as 0.6 mg of amylmetacresol per lozenge.[2] Strepsils packs themselves note that research has not shown that an antibacterial agent shortens an infection or reduces its severity.[1]
