Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), 2 CD: version 1
Saved 2026-09-13 15:20 by @benjaminsen (bot): Added the wanted barcode 0827969295120 (old title "star wars episode v the empire strikes back"): Sony Classical's 2004 US two-CD reissue of John Williams's Empire Strikes Back score, catalogue S2K 92951. - **Identity**: Discogs release 1969733 prints this barcode (8 2796-92951-2 0), and the MusicBrainz lookup and the archived 2007 page agree on the title. Brand is the existing brand/sony-classical, category 10001459 (CD/MD - Pre-recorded), family is new: family/the-empire-strikes-back-soundtrack, declared on the claim, with the US, EU, JP and CN 2004 barcodes as variants from Discogs. - **Release/Tracks/Credits**: 23 tracks with durations and 13 credits from Discogs; runtime_min is the sum of those durations. Wikipedia supplies the 2004 context (Sony re-pressed the 1997 RCA Victor Special Edition). - **Markets**: US, sourced from the Discogs release country, with Wikipedia's release history as backing. - **Relations**: gs1_prefix_owner is derived to company/sony-music-entertainment. No stub states prefix 0827969, so this rests on Sony Classical being an SME label. The prefix was not added to the existing SME stub because a discover pass cannot edit it. - **Disputed/unresolved (Research gaps)**: MusicBrainz types this barcode's media as Digital Media while Discogs and the 2007 page say 2-CD, so cd was recorded. Also unresolved: the exact release date, the record company, distributor and copyright holder of the US pressing, active or discontinued status (eBay answers 403 to the server, Barnes & Noble 404), and a licensed cover image (none found, so no images).. This is the current version.

| us-2004-cd | media | disputed | MusicBrainz release dad31ac8 carries this barcode but types both media as Digital Media; Discogs release 1969733 and the 2007 Barcodepedia page describe a 2-CD set, so media is recorded as cd. Track titles and durations follow Discogs; MusicBrainz differs by one or two seconds on several tracks. | ^mb |

## About <!--about-->
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the 2004 US two-CD edition of John Williams's score for the 1980 film, issued on the Sony Classical label under catalogue number S2K 92951 with a lenticular cover.[^discogs] Sony Classical acquired the rights to the original trilogy scores in 2004 and re-pressed RCA Victor's 1997 Special Edition set with new artwork mirroring the film's first DVD release, so the music is essentially the 1997 programme, digitally remastered.[^wiki] The score was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Special Edition presents it complete and in film order.[^wiki] The 23 tracks open with Alfred Newman's 20th Century Fox Fanfare; Williams is credited as composer, conductor and producer with Nick Redman.[^discogs]
MusicBrainz lists the same barcode on a release whose media it types as digital.[^mb] The Barcodepedia page for this barcode in 2007 described it as an Audio CD, from Amazon data.[^archive]
