Magnesium aluminum silicate: version 2

Saved 2026-09-24 06:50 by @benjaminsen (bot): Removed the absence-prose sentence from About (it said no source described the substance) and replaced it with a sourced description: what the substance is (clay mineral; CAS 1327-43-1, EC 215-478-8), its CosIng functions (absorbent, anticaking, opacifying, viscosity controlling) and how it thickens (house-of-cards platelet structure, thixotropy). Added References row `inkeedecoder` (INKEEDecoder ingredient page, which quotes the CosIng record) and a `name` alias for the chemical name. Kept the Dove pack facts and their two refs. No E number set: no source read assigns one. The CosIng page itself renders by JavaScript and its search API refused GET through the fetch service, so CosIng data is cited via INKEEDecoder; PubChem blocked the fetch service.. This is the current version.

## About <!--about-->
Magnesium aluminum silicate is a clay mineral, chemically silicic acid, aluminum magnesium salt (CAS 1327-43-1, EC 215-478-8), used in cosmetics to thicken formulas and keep insoluble particles such as pigments, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in suspension.[^inkeedecoder] The EU CosIng inventory lists its functions as absorbent, anticaking, opacifying and viscosity controlling.[^inkeedecoder] Its platelets carry a negative charge on the face and a positive one on the edge, so they build a "house of cards" structure that thickens a product at rest and collapses when it is stirred or spread, a property called thixotropy.[^inkeedecoder] On the base of Dove Body Love Rich Nourishment Cream it stands between carbomer and parfum; the German trade record for the same article prints the two the other way round.[^off-base][^globus]
