KitKat is the wafer-and-chocolate bar line Rowntree's of York launched in September 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937 and Kit Kat after the war; the standard bars have two or four fingers.[^wikikitkat] Nestlé acquired the line with Rowntree's in 1988 and produces it worldwide except in the United States, where the Hershey Company has made it under licence since 1970.[^wikikitkat] The four-finger bar sold in Britain and Ireland used Fairtrade-certified cocoa from January 2010 until Nestlé moved to Rainforest Alliance sourcing in 2020.[^wikikitkat]
