EMI, registered as EMI Group Limited, is a British music and electronics group that Universal Music Group has owned since 28 September 2012.[^wiki-emi] Electric and Musical Industries Ltd was formed in March 1931 by the merger of the Columbia Graphophone Company with the Gramophone Company; EMI merged with Thorn Electrical Industries in October 1979 to form Thorn EMI, demerged from Thorn in 1996 and was divided and sold in 2012, its recorded music going to Universal Music Group and EMI Music Publishing to a Sony-led consortium.[^wiki-emi] Its labels included EMI Records, Parlophone, Virgin Records and Capitol Records.[^wiki-emi] The registration is still active and files as a head-office company in London.[^ch-emi]
