The New York Department of State's Active Corporations register (new row `nydos`, DOS ID 3928572) establishes the legal name Apress Media, LLC, a California limited liability company registered in New York on 24 March 2010 with its address at One New York Plaza, Suite 4600, so Identity gains `legal_name`, `registered_address`, `register_ids: US-NY:3928572` and an Establishments office row. Ownership is now a relation from a source instead of a redirect inference: the archived apress.com About Us page of 2013 (`apressabout2013`) states in Apress's own words that it has been part of Springer Science+Business Media since 2007, so `owned_by company/springer` from 2007 at `verified`, and the 2019 capture (`apressabout2019`), which calls Apress a Springer Nature company, keeps `parent_org company/springer-nature` from 2015 at `sourced` with the 2015 merger cited to `wikisn`. Added `summary`, `wikidata: Q4034234` and `founded: 1999` — the 2004 capture (`apressabout2004`) carries the copyright line '1999-2004 Apress LP' and the founders' story, and the 2002 Apress press release (`apresspr2002`) gives the Berkeley address, the Author's Press origin of the name and Springer-Verlag New York trade distribution; `wikidata` supports the ISBN publisher prefixes 978-1-59059 and 978-1-4302, which is what a barcode search for an Apress book lands on. Also added the Commons PD-textlogo wordmark through `images`, the legal aliases Apress Media, LLC and Apress L.P. and a search alias Author's Press, and rewrote About as a lede plus a history paragraph, dropping the old sentence about the shareholder not being read from a register. Two limits worth naming: the direct registered member of the LLC is stated on Apress book copyright pages, which are not fetchable here (link.springer.com book pages answer a client challenge, OAPEN answers an Anubis wall), so the direct owner is recorded as Springer Science+Business Media on Apress's own statement rather than on a filing; and the walk up the group stops at company/springer, which carries no Relations section at all — both it and company/springer-nature (53% Holtzbrinck Publishing Group / 47% BC Partners, neither of which has a page here) are on the cleanup queue. | Diff |
