Alberto-Culver was an American maker of hair and skin care products with its seat at 2525 Armitage Avenue, Melrose Park, Illinois, selling Alberto VO5, TRESemme, St. Ives, Nexxus, Noxzema and the ethnic hair care marks Soft & Beautiful, Just For Me, Motions and TCB.[^acwiki] The business began as a Los Angeles beauty supply house named after its house chemist, Alberto, and was bought and reorganised in 1955 by Leonard H. Lavin, who moved it to Chicago; shareholders spun off the Sally Beauty distribution business in November 2006.[^acwiki] In December 2009 Alberto-Culver bought the British company Simple Health & Beauty Group Limited and with it the Simple skincare brand, which it held until Unilever bought Alberto-Culver on 27 September 2010 for US$3.7 billion and took Simple over about six months later.[^acwiki][^wiki] The SEC's EDGAR submissions record for CIK 0000003327 carries the company's filings through December 2010 and names the entity New Alberto-Culver LLC, EIN 36-2257936, incorporated in Delaware at the Melrose Park address, recording ALBERTO CULVER CO as its name until 29 November 2006.[^acsec]
