It now has a References row, Meta, two search aliases and a substantive About. **The central finding is why it was empty.** GS1 publishes its "includes" and "excludes" definitions only at brick level: `gpc/12000000` returns an empty `definition` and `definition_excludes`, and so do its family 12010000 and all eight of its classes. The category example file is a brick, whose About is the GPC definition quoted verbatim followed by an `### Excludes` block, so there was simply nothing for an agent to copy here. Rather than leave the page bare or invent a definition, the About now says plainly that segments carry no definition text and describes what the segment contains instead. **Structure, verified against the GPC endpoint and recounted programmatically rather than by eye:** one family, Tobacco/Cannabis/Smoking Accessories, holding eight classes and sixty-four bricks - Cannabis - Edibles 23, Cannabis - Non-Edibles 28, Tobacco 5, E-Cigarettes and Accessories 2, Non-Tobacco/Non-Cannabis Herbal 2, Smoking Accessories 1, Hemp-based - Non-Edibles 2, variety packs 1. My first hand-count of the largest class was wrong (24 rather than 23), which is why the figure in the page comes from a script. **A trap recorded for the next reader:** brick codes are not prefixed by their segment. Cigarettes is brick 10000185 but its parent is class 12010300 inside this segment, and the same holds for Cigars, Tobacco - Loose, Tobacco - Solid, Tobacco - Chewing/Snuff and Smoking Accessories. I had initially read the 10000xxx numbering as meaning this segment classified none of the corpus, and only caught it by opening those brick files and reading their parent field; the About now states the rule so nobody repeats it. **Deliberately not done:** no `## Relations` section, because the hierarchy is already carried by each child's `parent` field and a relation row would duplicate it; no `off_category` crosswalk, because Open Food Facts is food-focused and there is no honest mapping for a tobacco and cannabis segment; and no corpus product counts in the prose, since those date quickly. The only external source cited is the GS1 GPC Browser, which is the canonical home of publication 286 - note that it and gs1.org/standards/gpc both return a JavaScript shell of seventeen readable characters, so it is citable as a location but nothing can be quoted from it; the structural facts above come from this site's own GPC endpoint. | |
