Tobacco/Cannabis is one of the top-level segments of the GS1 Global Product Classification, the scheme that gives every brick code used elsewhere on this site its place in a hierarchy of segment, family, class and brick. It covers tobacco products, cannabis in both edible and non-edible forms, hemp-based products, non-tobacco herbal smoking products, electronic cigarettes and the accessories used with any of them.^[1] GS1 publishes its "includes" and "excludes" definitions only at brick level, so a segment such as this one carries no definition text of its own; that is why this page describes what the segment contains rather than quoting a definition, as the brick pages beneath it do.^[1]

In publication 286 of May 2026 the segment holds a single family, Tobacco/Cannabis/Smoking Accessories, which in turn holds eight classes and sixty-four bricks: Cannabis - Edibles (23 bricks), Cannabis - Non-Edibles (28), Tobacco (5), E-Cigarettes and Accessories (2), Non-Tobacco/Non-Cannabis Herbal (2), Smoking Accessories (1), Hemp-based - Non-Edibles (2) and a variety-packs class (1).^[1] The Tobacco class is the one a shopper would recognise: it holds the bricks for Cigarettes, Cigars, Tobacco - Loose, Tobacco - Solid and Tobacco - Chewing/Snuff.^[1]

One feature of the classification is worth stating plainly, because the numbers invite a wrong guess. Brick codes are not prefixed by the segment they belong to. The bricks under this segment are numbered in the 10000xxx range for the long-established tobacco products and in the 10006xxx to 10008xxx ranges for the newer cannabis, hemp and electronic-cigarette entries, so a brick code on its own says nothing about which segment classifies it. Only the parent chain does, and on this site each category file records that chain in its parent field.^[1]
