## About <!--about-->
Norwegian canned seafood brand, founded in 1902 when Oscar II, king of Sweden and Norway, gave the Stavanger cannery Chr. Bjelland & Co "special royal permission" to use his name and likeness on a line of sardines; the phrase and the king's portrait are still on the cans.[^wiki][^frontphoto] Exports to the United States began in 1903 and the brand was established in the American and British markets by 1920. It passed to Norway Foods in 1981, to Rieber & Søn in 1996, to King Oscar AS in 2009 and to Thai Union Group in 2014.[^wiki] Brisling sardines remain the flagship product, alongside mackerel, tuna, kippers and cod roe.[^wiki][^range]
