About Tip Corporation
The Tip Corporation was a formulator of soft-drink flavours at 517 North Main Street in Marion, Virginia. William H. "Bill" Jones became its president in 1957; the company acquired the trademark for Mountain Dew, and Jones refined the drink's formula around 1961, partly by running taste tests with Marion residents, after which sales grew and distribution widened.[1] Tip is the company Mountain Dew came from: the Pepsi-Cola Company bought it in 1964 and expanded the drink across the United States and Canada, and the brand's page here records Tip as its owner until that August.[2][1] The Virginia Department of Historic Resources dedicated a state historical marker at Tip's former address in May 2025, naming Marion the birthplace of modern Mountain Dew.[1]
