Philip Morris USA Inc. is the United States cigarette business of Altria Group, organised in Virginia.[1] It makes Marlboro, Basic, Benson & Hedges, L&M, Merit, Parliament and Virginia Slims; Altria says Marlboro has been the top-selling cigarette brand in the United States for more than 45 years and that PM USA held a 45.2 % cigarette retail share in 2025.[2] The company traces its history to the shop Philip Morris opened on Bond Street in London in 1847 and to the incorporation of Philip Morris & Co., Ltd. in New York City in 1902.[2] It runs its own consumer site at philipmorrisusa.com, which carries the corrective statements a federal court ordered the US cigarette makers to publish.[3] It is a different company from Philip Morris International, which owns Marlboro outside the United States.[4]
