About Panda

Oy Panda Ab was the Finnish company that made Panda liquorice and chocolate at the Vaajakoski factory in Jyväskylä. The trade register entered it on 27 February 1998 as Profipri Oy and recorded the names Oy Panda Ab and Panda suklaatehdas on 8 November 2000, when the factory's management and the private equity investor MB Rahastot bought the Panda business back from the Norwegian Rieber & Søn ASA.[1][2] Felix Abba Oy Ab, the Orkla group's Finnish food company, announced its purchase of the company on 26 May 2005, when Panda turned over almost 52 million euro and employed about 300 people.[3] It ceased on 31 December 2013, merged into the Åland snack maker Chips Ab.[1][4]

Chips Ab is a different legal entity, business ID 0205117-8 against this company's 1459878-7: it was renamed Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Finland Ab at the merger and Orkla Suomi Finland Oy Ab in 2023, and it carries Panda and Panda Suklaatehdas as auxiliary business names, which is why the Panda name appears on both pages.[1][5] Until the 2005 sale the shares were held by MB Rahastot, a Finnish private equity investor whose five funds then managed 290 million euro, together with Panda's own senior management.[3] Felix Abba Oy Ab, business ID 0640964-0, which Orkla bought in 1995, ceased on 31 March 2013; the Felix Abba name passed to business ID 0203602-3, which was renamed Orkla Foods Finland Oy on 1 October 2013, and Panda passed to Chips Ab in the same reorganisation.[5][6] An earlier company of the same name, business ID 0721825-6, was formed in the 1988 management buyout of the factory from SOK and was renamed Rieber & Søn Oy on 8 November 2000, the same day this company took the Panda name; it ceased on 10 January 2005.[1]
