About

New Century Beverage Company is a San Francisco soft-drink firm and the originator of Mug Root Beer. It launched Crush Soda in 1918, bought the Belfast Beverage Company around 1925, was granted a Pepsi-Cola franchise in 1936, and introduced Belfast Root Beer in 1940; that drink became Mug Root Beer. PepsiCo acquired the company in 1986 and stopped producing its sodas in San Francisco in the early 1990s. Mug Root Beer is still manufactured by independent bottlers under New Century Beverage Company's authority.[1]
