About Nestlé Purina PetCare
Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, or simply Purina, is an American subsidiary of Nestlé based in St. Louis, Missouri, that produces and markets pet food, treats and cat and dog litter; its brands include Purina Pro Plan, Purina Dog Chow, Friskies, Beneful and Purina ONE.[1]
The company was formed in December 2001, when Nestlé acquired Ralston Purina for $10.3 billion and merged it with its own pet food business, Friskies PetCare Company; the Federal Trade Commission approved the merger after the Meow Mix and Alley Cat brands were sold.[1] Its roots go back to Purina Mills, founded in St. Louis in 1894 and renamed Ralston Purina in 1902, the year it built its first building at the present 800 Chouteau Avenue headquarters.[1] Amazon's US listings name the maker of its Pro Plan dry dog food as "Nestle Purina Pet".[2]
