Holtzbrinck Publishing Group is the trading name of Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH & Co. KG, the family-held publishing group registered in Stuttgart at Gänsheidestraße 26 under HRA 11722, with Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH, Stuttgart HRB 2306, as its general partner and Stefan von Holtzbrinck as chairman of its management.[1] Georg von Holtzbrinck re-established the business in 1948 as a German book club,[2] and the group works today in four areas: science, through Springer Nature and Digital Science; consumer books, through Macmillan Publishers, Pan Macmillan and the German houses S. Fischer, Rowohlt and Kiepenheuer & Witsch; education, through Macmillan Learning; and news media, through the DIE ZEIT publishing group.[3]

GLEIF's record for the partnership declares neither a direct nor an ultimate accounting consolidation parent, giving NO_KNOWN_PERSON as the reason in both reporting exceptions,[4][5] and the voting-rights notification in Springer Nature's 2025 group management report places only the general partner and two natural persons, Dr Stefan von Holtzbrinck and Christiane Schoeller, in the chain above the KG.[6] The group describes itself as family-held.[7] The English Wikipedia infobox lists Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH & Co. KG as a parent above Holtzbrinck, while the same article's opening sentence gives that name as the German name of Holtzbrinck itself;[2] the imprint settles it, since holtzbrinck.com is published in that name at the group's own address.[1] GLEIF dates the partnership to June 1989 and validates it against Stuttgart HRA 11722, so 1948 is the year of the business rather than of this legal entity.[8]
The group's own about page gives more than 14,000 people in over 120 countries and revenue above €3.8 billion.[7] Wikipedia reports sales of €1.99 billion for 2024, earnings before taxes of €293 million and 14,000 employees, with 29 per cent of sales in Germany and 53 per cent in North America.[2] Holtzbrinck brought its Nature Publishing Group, Palgrave Macmillan and Macmillan Education into the merger with Springer Science+Business Media that closed in May 2015 and created Springer Nature, taking the majority 53 per cent share to BC Partners' 47 per cent.[9] It holds that stake through GvH Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft XXXIII mbH, its wholly owned Stuttgart subsidiary, which pools its votes with the BC Partners vehicle in Springer Nature's general partner.[6]
