The BVG-Familienstiftung is a family foundation under private law in Gütersloh, recognised by the Detmold district government on 28 April 2022 under file 659, registered as non-charitable and with the stated purpose of supporting its own family.^[1] It holds 50 percent of Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH, the company that controls all voting rights at the general meetings of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA and of its general partner Bertelsmann Management SE, according to the Liste der Gesellschafter filed at the Local Court of Gütersloh on 21 July 2023.^[2] Bertelsmann counts it as one of the four foundations that together hold 80.9 percent of the capital shares in Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA indirectly, with the Mohn family holding the remaining 19.1 percent.^[3]

Its board is Christoph Mohn, who may act alone, together with Elisabeth "Liz" Mohn and Brigitte Mohn, who act jointly; the register gives its address in care of Dr. Erkan Uysal at the Bertelsmann head office.^[1] It is the youngest of the four foundations. GLEIF records it as an active Stiftung des privaten Rechts, legal form code V2YH, at Carl-Bertelsmann-Straße 270 in Gütersloh, validated against the same North Rhine-Westphalian foundation directory, and gives its entity creation date as 27 April 2022 at 22:00 UTC, which is midnight on 28 April in German summer time and so the register's recognition date.^[4][5] Bertelsmann's own shareholder page names four foundations behind the 80.9 percent, while the English Wikipedia article on Bertelsmann and LobbyControl's Lobbypedia name three, Bertelsmann Stiftung, Reinhard Mohn Stiftung and BVG-Stiftung, and leave this one out.^[6][2] No company stands above it: GLEIF carries both a direct and an ultimate parent reporting exception for the foundation, each with the reason that there is no known person,^[7][8] and a foundation of this legal form has no shareholders.^[5]
