Brasseries Kronenbourg is the French brewery founded in 1664 by Geronimus Hatt in Strasbourg and named after Cronenbourg, the higher ground it moved to in 1850.^[1] BSN bought it in 1970, Scottish and Newcastle in 2000 for 1.7 billion pounds, and since the break-up of Scottish and Newcastle in April 2008 it has belonged to the Danish group Carlsberg; its main breweries are at Obernai and Champigneulles and its best-known beer is Kronenbourg 1664.^[1] The French register complicates the legal identity: the entity that traded as Brasseries Kronenbourg (SIREN 332266428) is recorded as ceased in 2008, and the group's active beer-manufacturing entity at Obernai is registered as Kronenbourg Supply Company (SIREN 528365125).^[2]
