About Beiersdorf AG
Beiersdorf AG is a German multinational headquartered in Hamburg that makes personal-care products and pressure-sensitive adhesives; its brands include Nivea, Eucerin, Aquaphor, Labello, La Prairie, Elastoplast, Coppertone and Tesa.[1] It holds the Aquaphor trademark, as printed on Aquaphor packs sold in the United States.[2]
The company was founded in Hamburg in 1882 by the pharmacist Paul Beiersdorf, whose patent for coated plasters of 28 March 1882 is regarded as its founding date, and was sold to Oscar Troplowitz in 1890. Its shares were listed on the Hamburg Stock Exchange in 1928. After the Second World War most of its international subsidiaries were expropriated and it lost the Nivea trademark rights abroad, which it bought back market by market until 1997. Tesa became an independent business segment in April 2001.[1]
