Kitchenware and Tableware

Kitchenware and Tableware is a segment of the GS1 Global Product Classification and the top of the branch that pages for pots, pans, cutlery, crockery and drinking glasses sit under. A segment is the highest level of the classification and is defined as a particular industry, while the building block of the system is the brick, the level an individual product is actually classified against.^[1] Publication 286 gives this segment no definition text of its own, as it gives none to the other segments, so none is reproduced here.^[2]

The hierarchy runs segment, family, class, brick and finally brick attribute, which describes a particular product detail.^[1][3] Only the brick is carried on a product page here; the three upper layers exist to reach the right brick. This segment divides into two families. Kitchenware (73040000) holds eight classes: Kitchen Storage, Water/Beverage Equipment, Food Measuring Equipment, Cookware/Bakeware, Food Preparation Equipment, Kitchen Merchandise Variety Packs, Food/Beverage Presentation Accessories and Disposable Food Containers. Tableware (73050000) holds nine: Baby Tableware, Dinnerware, Drinkware, Barware, Serveware, Tableware (Disposable), Tableware Variety Packs, Tableware Accessories and Flatware, each of the non-disposable classes distinguished from its disposable counterpart.^[2]

GPC is republished twice a year, in May and November. Users are given six months to prepare their systems for the announced changes, and a new version is rolled out into the GS1 data pools about six months after it is published.^[3] This page follows publication 286 of May 2026. No product in this corpus is classified under any brick of this segment yet, so the page is structural: it exists so that a future kitchen or tableware product carrying one of those brick codes has a parent to resolve to.
